We had a busy and fun weekend. On Saturday, we met Wendy and the kids and Javin and Ethan at one of the state parks that happens to be about 5 minutes from where we live. We went on a “hike” of some sort…we got kind of lost and ended up walking on the road, but at least we know where we’re going now. :-P We had lunch by the lake, and watched the kids go play in the freezing water. It doesn’t seem to matter how cold it is, they’ll still go in! Javin had his house inspection in the afternoon, so we split up while he did that. Then we all met up again for dinner at the park…and more freezing lake playing, etc. It was nice. The weather was so beautiful this weekend that we had to take advantage of it.

Sunday we decided to take Kaira swimming for the first time! She did okay, but unfortunately the pool was PACKED, and all the screaming, splashing kids really freaked her out. So for the majority of the time she was clinging to us, but by the end she had calmed down and was having more fun. I think once our pool opens at our condo, we can go a lot more often (and hopefully with a lot less people) and she’ll be able to have more fun. She was very cute in her swim suit though. :-)

More sadness
More sadness

We just got back from our quick trip to Lincoln this weekend. It was short and sweet. :-) We got there on Friday afternoon and went to visit my Grandma, and to let her see Kaira. Everything went well there, she thought Kaira was adorable and very active. Kaira just liked her fish. :-P After that, we left to meet Cari for dinner. We ended up at the Applebees by the mall. While we were looking for parking, I happened to see someone I thought I recognized…and yup, there were Priscilla and Crystal! Weeeird. Anyway, we got to see them and I got to see Crystal’s baby, Navarrah (no idea how to spell that). I couldn’t get over how big she was!!! Maybe I’m just used to tiny Kaira, but seriously, she was HUGE! :-)

Saturday was the Nebraska/Texas game. *sigh* We don’t need to talk too much about that. It was stressful and depressing. I think Melissa was right when she said that all Nebraska fans have ulcers…watching those games are heart breaking. We did go to the mall during halftime to get Kaira some Nebraska stuff though, I was sad that she didn’t have any. We found her a suuuuuuper cute cheerleader outfit and matching hair/wrist pom-poms. It is so stinkin’ adorable. :-) We went out later to look for a long sleeved shirt for her to wear under it, but instead ended up finding another cheerleader outfit (pink this time) soooo, we just had to get her that one too. Its way too big for her (as you can see in the pictures) but its adorable anyway! After we recovered from the game, Chris took Kaira to see my parents for the first time…I went with Cari and Melissa to Lazlos to drink. :-P We met Ryan, Shawn, his friend Jamie, and Devin there for dinner. It was a lot of fun. We finally convinced the guys to hold Kaira, they were all convinced they were going to break her…but they finally did it and we got some awesome pictures from it. :-) Once we were all done eating (at our itty-bitty table) we ran over to Crystal and Priscilla’s apartment to say good-bye.

Anyway, it was a nice weekend, and I love that we live close enough to do things like that now. A seven hour drive is nothing compared to the 24 hour drive from Cali. :-) We’re back in Denver now so Chris can work, although the rest of the household is still in Lincoln, so the house is unusally quiet and peaceful. That’ll all end tomorrow though. :-P Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. :-)

First shots, 4 of them!!
First shots, 4 of them!!

Kaira had her first set of shots this week, 4 of them. I think I was more upset than she was. :-P I can’t stand to see my baby in pain. :-( She actually did pretty well, she only screamed for a few minutes. Once they let me pick her up again she settled down, but man, that sucked! I’m making Chris take her next time, hehe. Speaking of Chris…he should be back in less than 2 weeks now, 13 days! Yay! :-)

Yesterday was a fun day. Saturday’s are supposed to be our “family day.” Javin and Ethan come over and spend the day here, and we usually grill out while all the kids play. Yesterday we decided to take the kids downtown to the ESPN Zone for lunch. That place is cool. :-) And, of course, the kids love it…all those games and everything. We walked around a little downtown afterwards, but that can prove rather difficult with 6 kids. :-P I’m excited to go back down there again though, it looks like a nice place to walk around. We had to hurry home to watch the Nebraska game, which proved much more stressful than we expected. How do we start out with a 17 point lead, and then somehow end up in overtime? :-P That’s Nebraska football for you! It was great though, hehe…and we won in the end, so that’s all that matters.

After all the moving/unpacking, I just found the cable for the camera again, so I put up a bunch more pictures. :-) Some are when we were back in California, the rest are with the family here.

Kaira had her 6 week appointment this week and is now up to 7lbs 6oz. My baby’s getting so big! :-)

Well the baby is almost 2 weeks old now so we’re getting used to being at home again. Things are a lot different now though. :-P Generally Kaira is really good. She doesn’t hardly cry and she has a pretty calm disposition. Of course there are exceptions to that, but overall, she’s really good, thank God. Our only problem has been getting her to sleep in her bassinet at night. She’ll sleep in there, but only for an hour or so…then wakes up and wants to be held or fed or something again. But if we let her sleep in our bed with us, she’ll sleep for a lot longer…maybe even 4 hours! :-P That’s not really a habit I want her to get into, but when you’re exhausted and dead tired, you really just don’t care anymore. I guess if we can at least get her to sleep by herself for part of the night that’s good enough. She’s our first baby, we can spoil her. :-)

Wendy and the kids got to Denver Friday night. They all love the new house, although its a little empty while they’re waiting for all our stuff to get there. I’m so ready to move…I’m excited to see the new house and get everything situated there. Plus I miss the kids and my sister. We’ll be able to see Javin and Ethan there too…plus all of Chris’ family in Wyoming. And, as soon as we move it means Chris will almost be out of the military, which is the best news ever. :-) I know he’ll be excited when that day comes too. :-) The only bad part about it will be when Chris has to leave us in Denver to come back here for a month. :-( I’m just choosing not to think about that until I have to.

Chris leaves tomorrow to go out to the field for the rest of the week. Its going to be a long week. :-P Wendy told me I should just pretend I’m a single parent while he’s gone. That’s crap! I don’t wat be a single parent! :-P We’ll be okay, but still…its going to be a long week. I’ll just have to find things to keep us busy!

Well…it certainly has been an eventful week! We went in to our regular doctors appointment on Tuesday morning. The doctor said that the baby seemed to be a little small, so they wanted to send us to have an ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. The ultrasound was saying that the baby’s size was around 31-34 weeks (when it should have been 38 weeks). So the concern was that the placenta had stopped working properly and wasn’t letting the baby grow like she should. So the doctor decided she wanted me immediately admitted and have labor induced. The good thing was that since I was already at 38 weeks, the baby was considered full term, so they were pretty sure that she’d be fine.

We went to check in at labor and delivery, and then the fun began. :-P Chris had to leave to go get our stuff from home (since they wouldn’t let me leave) while they got me “settled in” at the hospital. For some reason, I’ve always had a little bit of an issue with people drawing my blood…they can never seem to easily find a vein or get the blood out. Well, they had to insert an IV this time, which apparently is even harder to do. :-P They started on my left arm, blew out 2 veins, and then moved to the right arm. They blew another vein there (3 different nurses had tried by now) before they tried to put it in my hand, which they didn’t really want to do because its an annoying place to have one. Luckily they got it in there though, although it clotted in about an hour so they had to move it to my left hand. :-P That hurt. Not nearly as much as other things, but still…it wasn’t a fun way to start things! Anyway, after the IV was started and they drew more blood for testing, 2 doctors came in and talked to me about the induction. The plan was to give me a drug that they insert next to the cervix to make it dialate, then patocin to get contractions going. Well as soon as they gave me the first one, I started getting tons of contractions. About that time Chris got back, along with a ton of stuff, hehe. After that, things start to get a little blurry. I remember just starting to cry because the contractions were so bad…which the nurse said was because the contractions were 3 mintues long, as opposed to how they should be (30 seconds or so). They offered me morphine, but I really didn’t want to feel sick the whole time, so I said no. I should have said yes. :-P

As the night went on, the contractions just got worse and worse until they were practically on top of each other. At one point, I had dialated 4cm more in an hour (still with no drugs yet). About then I started really, really, REALLY wanting the epidural. The doctor came in and talked about it, although I wasn’t listening at all. Chris said that they said the doctor said “this is the part that will hurt..” and I didn’t even flinch. I think I was too distracted by the contractions to really care. :-P So whoever thinks that epidurals hurt…nah, not at all compared to contractions, hehe. That was about midnight. So we finally got a little rest once I got that, and we slept until about 1am. Then I woke up feeling the contractions again, not so much painful as before, but just a lot of pressure etc. The doctor came in and decided to break my water (I think I was at about 8cm by then). That didn’t hurt either, in fact, I didn’t even know they had done it, so that was nice. Once they did that though, I started feeling waaaaay different and I felt like the baby was coming out. I thought at first that I was imagining it, but I had Chris go find a nurse and they found out that I was at 10+2cm and the baby was ready to come out. It all just happened so fast that I don’t think I had any idea what was really going on. The pushing was a lot different than I expected. At first I just didn’t get it. :-P I was pushing (at least I thought I was) but apparently not at the right place. But once I figured it out, it went super fast. It was less than 30 minutes of pushing before she came out. In fact, she was coming out so fast that there wasn’t even a doctor in the room so they had to have me stop pushing while they found one. That was pretty much impossible. How do you stop pushing? :-P I just figured out how to push in the first place! Chris said he could see her head at that point, so we were just hanging out there waiting for the doctor. I’m not exactly sure how or what happened…but I remember there suddenly being 3 doctors in the room and them calling for pediatrics and they finally said I could push and she just popped right out. She started crying right away and looked perfectly healthy. :-)

She was officially 5lbs 11oz, which was bigger than she appeared from the ultrasound. She didn’t have any complications or problems (thankfully!). I had some tearing so they had to stitch that up…which took an hour and was not very pleasant. :-P Someone should have told me that just because the delivery was over, that I wasn’t done, hehe. I think all the stuff after the birth was as bad as the delivery. :-P She’s worth it though…its only been a couple of days and I can’t even remember the pain as much as before. Next time I’ll just know to ask for the epidural earlier!

Chris was really, really good through the whole thing. :-) The funniest thing is that he did everything that he said he wasn’t going to do. :-P He was watching the baby come out the whole time and he cut the cord (twice actually). He was really good at helping me through the pain though…I think I totally would have lost it without him there. And now that the baby is here…oh man, he’s totally turned into a daddy. :-) The baby is already a daddy’s girl, its so cute. And she’s so perfect. Its hard to imagine being any happier. :-)

I’m actually not 38 weeks until tomorrow, but its close enough! Its hard to believe these 9 (actually 10) months are almost over, it seemed so far away for so long. We’ve talked about getting to this point for so long, but the reality of it actually being here hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I’m so ready to have this baby, but at the same time still a little nervous about the whole birth process. :-) I know it’ll be okay…but I really don’t like the unknown…or pain. Ah! I think I’ll be fine with an epidural though.

Tomorrow I have a doctors appointment and they will see if I’m dialated at all, I’m kind of excited to hear the news about that. We’d like to be able to wait until next week to have the baby, but still, I’d be happy to hear that maybe it was starting a little already. :-)

Wendy and the kids are moving in 11 days! Holy crap that’s soon! They seem to be really excited which is great. I’m excited for them to get to the new house so they can take pictures and let us know what else we need etc…and then we’ll be there soon after that! Ah! So many changes, so soon!!

Chris decided that I needed a new laptop this weekend. He’s cool! :-) Since I’ve been off work, I haven’t been going up to my computer much b/c its SOOOO hot upstairs where the desks are (its been over 100 here all weekend). So I started using my old laptop to check my email at least downstairs. But its so slow that email is pretty much all I could do…which was frustrating, plus there is something screwy with the power cord and/or screen that kept making it shut itself off. So on Sunday Chris found a new one and got it for me. :-D Its my friend…it lets me stay downstairs where its nice and cool, and I have the big screen tv, hehe. I could get used to this. :-P Now I just need our baby and I’ll be set!

As you can tell, I haven’t been too good about staying up to date but starting 2 days from now I should have a lot more time on my hands. :-) Tomorrow I’ll officially be at 9 months, and the next day will be my last day of work. Woohoo!! I don’t know how people work much after they hit 9 months because I know how tired and miserable I feel after being there for 8 hours. Luckily we managed to live in a state that actually makes it possible to stop working early, otherwise I’m sure I’d still keep going too. As long as we live here though…I’m going to take advantage of it. :-)

Tomorrow is my 36 week doctors appointment, where they should tell us a lot about how the baby is positioned and how everything is developing. All I know is that I’m getting huge and I don’t like it! People at work tell me I look more pregnant every day…and its probably true. :-) I wouldn’t actually mind except for it makes me so tired and hot, and it gives me backaches. I’m sure it’ll all be worth it, but I’m ready for it to be over.

Our trip to Denver was a lot of fun. I actually posted the pictures from the trip a while ago, but just never posted about it. It was really nice to see everyone again, plus we got to look around at some neighborhoods in Denver to kind of get a feel for the area. We’re getting really anxious to move, but the baby has to come first, so at least that’ll distract me for a while. We’re still looking for a house, which has turned into an extremely annoying process. There’s a good chance we have one, but we just don’t know yet (should know tomorrow) and its killing us to not know. :-P Its just crazy to think about how different life will be in about 6 weeks. It’ll all be for the best though. :-)

Second ultrasound, 20 weeks
Second ultrasound, 20 weeks
My big belly...
My big belly...

So I was all excited and just counting the days to my 20 week ultrasound, since that is when we were supposed to find out the sex of the baby. And, of course, I knew that for this particular one they make you drink an insane (32 oz) amount of water and then hold it for over an hour. Why didn’t anyone tell me this would be pure torture? Is this practice-childbirth-torture? Holy crap. Next time I’m pregnant, I’m not falling for that. I’m drinking…a glass of water and calling it good. :-P I started drinking at 7:30, just like I was supposed to, for the appointment at 8:45. When 9:00 rolled by and they still hadn’t even taken me out of the waiting room I thought I was actually going to die. Or break Chris’ fingers. Or throw up. Any of those choices really. Anyway, after finally getting back there, it wasn’t so bad…and the good news is….ITS A GIRL!!! Woohoo!! :-) That’s all that really matters, it was worth the torture just to find that out. I’ll post the new ultrasound pictures soon!

Its been a long time since my last update…oops! What happens is that I come home from work and after working on a computer all day, I just don’t want to do anything with mine at home. Maybe I should just update at work. Maybe they’ll fire me! :-P

Anyway, since the last post there’s been lots of stuff. I had a doctors appointment last month and they did an ultrasound. So we got to see and hear the baby for the first time. *tear* Its just so tiny, its crazy. Everything was good though, and the doctor said I was really healthy, so that’s good to hear. I’ll put up the pictures from the ultrasound. I have another appointment in a couple weeks. I don’t think they’re doing anything cool at that one, but 2 weeks after that (end of March) we have the next ultrasound which is when they’re supposed to tell us if its a boy or a girl. :-D I’ll be so mad if they can’t tell what it is…

Its a girl!
Its a girl!

Chris had his eye surgery last week. It was a strange experience. The day of the surgery, he was perfectly fine, I felt like puking. It was seriously freaking me out. :-P It went fine though, really fast and he was perfectly fine when he came out. The next day he was fine too, and we went back to the doctor for a follow up. He said that the third day was usually the worst. He wasn’t kidding…he was so stinkin sick the next two days, it was crazy. I felt so bad for him. :-( I think it was actually the pain medication that was making him so sick, and there was just nothing to make it better. He basically just slept for 2 days straight, it was so weird. Poor guy. He’s better now though. And he can see. :-)

March 23, 2006

I guess Valentines day was in there somewhere too. Chris is so funny. He ordered a necklace, which he of course ended up telling me about in 5 minutes. :-P I always tell him that he’s so bad at keeping secrets. He always ends up telling me. Well, to my complete surprise, he actually managed to pull one off! Not only that, he even got all of my co-workers to go along with it and not tell me (which, they told me later, was extremely hard). I guess at some point he called Heather (one of the girls I work with) and had her order 2 bouquets to be made for me on Valentines day (very smart, considering I work for a wholesale florist :-P ). Honestly, I can’t belive I didn’t find out either, since making “recipes” (the ingredients for our bouquets) is my job…so at one point or another, the recipe sheet should have passed through my desk. They were pretty smart about it though, and I didn’t see anything until I had already gotten the bouquets. One was a rose bouquet, of course, and the other was an all gerbera daisy bouquet. All the girls think he’s very sweet now, hehe.

Humm, what else is there? Oh! Chris found out today that he’s getting promoted. Woohoo! Not that I like the military any more or anything, but they can feel free to pay him more anytime they want. :-) I’m sure he’ll want to buy lots of baby things now…hehe. Anyway, he’ll be a Sergeant now. Congrats Critopher. :-)

We’re getting closer and closer to when we can move to Denver, yay! We’re planning a trip there in June to look around at the schools and neighborhoods and hopefully have some interviews set up for then too. We’ll be meeting Wendy, the kids, Jared and Javin there too, so it’ll be our little mini-vacation (and hopefully enough to convince the kids that they want to move!).

Well that’s enough for now I suppose. I should go find myself some food. :-)
