Yes, its true. Baby number 2 is on the way! I’m about 9 weeks along now. I’m not sure that it has really sunk in yet, mostly because I don’t feel very different, other than needing to eat every couple hours. I am, of course, very excited for the new baby, especially whenever I see someone with a newborn. But at the same time I find myself almost feeling guilty because Kaira isn’t going to be our only baby anymore. I’m sure that she’ll still be spoiled rotten, but I know she loves all the attention she gets right now. I think she’s going to be a great big sister though, and there’s no way I wanted her to be an only child, so I think she’ll thank us some day. I can’t imagine not having my brothers and sister around, or what it would have been like growing up as an only child. I want Kaira to have siblings like that too.

I can’t quite decide if I want a girl or a boy this time. We really, really wanted a girl the first time, but this time I just can’t decide. I’d love another girl, and considering that everything we own of Kaira’s is pink, it’d be easiest with another girl. But we need a boy too! We can’t not have a boy in the family. I guess if I have a girl this time, that just guarantees that we’ll have a third child at some point!

Kaira will be starting preschool this August. I think she’s really going to enjoy it and that it will be good for her to be around some other kids her own age. At the same time though, it kind of breaks my heart that she’s old enough to go to preschool. She seems to be getting so grown up lately, and I’m not sure if I like it. She’s talking up a storm, saying words that we didn’t even know she knew (and a lot in Spanish, thank you very much Dora), she sings songs, she counts (English and Spanish) and is getting very good at her ABC’s. I’m so proud of my baby. :-)

We went up to Cheyenne this weekend and saw a lot of the family. Grandma Esquibel is 94 now (wow!), so it was nice to go see her. Kaira is now completely in love with her Grandpa, its adorable. They played together the whole time we were there. “Come on Grandpa, follow me!” So cute. She also had a blast riding her trike all through the house and around outside. Its so nice to see how much she likes him though, which probably means we should try to get up there more often.

I saw in my last post that I was just starting work at the hospital (which means it was obviously a long time ago!). The job is going pretty well, I enjoy it and the people that I work with. My schedule changes every week, some are better than others…but hey, its a job!

We’re getting ready (as usual) for more trips. Next weekend we’ll be heading to Lincoln to visit the family there. It will be a quick trip, but it will be nice. I think the plan is to head to the zoo in Omaha, which I’m sure Kaira will love. She’s all into animals, especially since she can name them. We went to the Aquarium here last weekend and she loved it, she’s still talking about all the animals she saw there. A few weeks after that trip, we’ll be going up to Breckenridge for our annual summer vacation. That’s always fun. :-)

1) Stop relying on other people to make me happy
2) Teach Kaira her numbers/letters
3) Move :-/
4) Learn how to sew (need Betsy for that one…)
5) Read more (again)
6) Eat healthier
7) Get back to pre-pregnancy shape

I know there’s more but I can’t think of them…

That’s right…we now have a 1 year old!!  Time seems like yesterday she was just a little shrimp sleeping in our bed, hehe.  She seems to be growing up so fast all the sudden.  She finally got her first two teeth in (at the same time), she’s starting to walk, no more bottles, she’s drinking regular milk…and she’s a year old!  I’m not sure that I like her growing up so fast, hehe.  Kaira also has pierced ears now (she’s a real little girl!).  She did great.  She only cried for a second and then took her milk and was just fine.  I was so proud.  I was also terrified the whole time, so Chris had to hold her while they did it.  They look adorable though, so I’m glad we finally did it.

So Kaira is starting to walk suddenly.  She took about 10 steps yesterday.  She looked so proud!!  She’ll only do it when SHE feels like it though.  If we try to make her do it, she just drops to her knees and crawls.  Stubborn little girl!  She’s getting the hang of it though, so I know she’s going to be all over the place in a couple weeks.

Chris just got back from his trip to Seattle last night…we got home from the airport at about 1:30am.  Ugh.  We’re kind of sleep walking around today.  Oh well, we’ll catch up this weekend.  It seems like he had a good time (at the Microsoft campus), but I’m soooo glad to have him back.  Kaira missed him so much, she became incredibly clingy and needy.  She wouldn’t let me leave the room without her the entire time he was gone.  Sheesh, what a Daddy’s girl!  Anyway, its nice to have him back again…and he brought good presents back too, hehe.

Kaira has also become completely addicted to Signing Time.  We have to play them 3 or 4 times a day now.  She loooooves them.  (“Silly Pizza Song” is now permanently engraved in my mind.)  I hope she can pick up the signs soon, it looks like she tries to do a few already, its adorable.  I’m sure we’ll have to be investing in the rest of that series pretty soon.   The three we have make her happy for now though. :-)

We’re leaving for Cheyenne tomorrow (Friday) to get ready for Kaira’s little party.  It’ll be nice for her to see all her extended family again, she seems to like everyone so much.  I’m sure I’ll have lots of pictures to post soon!!

I know its been a long time since I posted, but I think I have a good excuse this time. :-)   We’ve had about a month straight of either visiting people or people visiting here.  It was actually a lot of fun, but it would have been nice if it was spread out a little bit!

We started by going to Lincoln a few weeks ago.  We were going because one of Chris’ high school friends was getting married, but we managed to see a lot of other people while we were there too.  It was a lot of fun and I was glad to visit, but also glad to leave again. :-P   We met up with Chris’ mom and sister while we were there, who were on their way to Cheyenne.   Kaira did great, she likes pretty much everyone she meets, which is good since there are so many new people for her to see.  Oh, and I also turned 25 while we were there…so I’m a quarter now.
A few days after we got back to Denver, Chris’ mom, sister and aunt met us at our place for dinner.  It was nice for Chris to be able to catch up with his family again, since we haven’t really seen any of them since we were married.   We met up again with them as well as Tara, Wes and the boys that Sunday for Red Lobster. It was nice to see all of them again, Tara’s boys seem so big to me now (probably just in comparison to Kaira).

A few days after that (really, its all running together in my head now), Matt got here from Montana.  He stayed with us about 4 nights.  His stay happened to be at the same time that Chisa was coming to visit, so we ended up with a very full house. :-)   It all worked out fine though, everyone got along and we had fun playing Mario Cart into the wee hours of the morning.  Kaira had a blast with all the attention she got.  She wasn’t sure about Matt with a hat on…but other than that she really liked everyone.  We all went to the Denver Art Museum one day.  They had some really cool temporary exhibits out.   We walked around downtown afterwards, ate at a little deli, and saw some of the really cool buildings down there (the courthouse, the Capitol building), as well as all the bums and weird pant-less skateboarders.  Oh yah, I forgot we live in a big city, hehe.  You don’t get too much of that around where we live, but go downtown and you remember where we are, hehe.  We came back to the condo to let Kaira take a nap, and we played more Mario Cart (we were addicted by that point).  That night we went to the Denver Aquarium and ate at the restaurant there.  It was very neat.  We ate by all the fishes. :-P   We walked around the aquarium after dinner, which was actually not packed for once.  Kaira liked looking at all the fish and other animals.

So I think that’s the short version of the last few weeks, it was a lot of fun (and great to see everyone!), but now its back to reality.  We’re getting ready for Jared and Kristine to get here next week though, so I guess we have that to look forward to!  Kaira’s also almost one (my baby!!), so we have that to get ready for too.

I can't take him anywhere...

Everyone keeps saying that this is the worst winter they’ve seen in years. I’m not sure that I believe them anymore. :-P This weekend was the 6th straight snow storm. No mas!! The snow yesterday wasn’t too bad, only a few more inches. Last weekend, however, the forecasted 2 inches turned into almost 10. We had planned to go to the Denver Art Museum that day, which we did, although it was a little scary getting there. It was really cool, but next time we want to take a guided tour. I was happy we finally made it there, I’ve been wanting to go since we moved here. After that, we stopped at one of the malls downtown to shop. Everything was great until Kaira tried to jump out of her stroller while we were on the escalator at Macy’s. So after that near heart attack, we were done shopping for the day. :-)

The next day, Monday, Chris had to call into work because there was no possible way to get his car out with the snow. We actually tried later on that day…only to spend a long time pushing it out again and again. Wendy called in to work the next day so that Chris could take my car (and then she could take the kiddos to school). We need an SUV. :-P Of course, the second we get one, it’ll never snow again.

Thursday I had just taken Whitney to school and Kaira and I stopped at Target for a few minutes. On the way home, an idiot decided to hit us. :-( Everyone was fine, but my poor car is hurt. *sigh* I was actually most annoyed by the idiot lady, who was extremely apologetic…that is until the police showed up, then she really just couldn’t remember quite what happened. Grrrr. The accident was completely her fault (I was turning left on a green arrow, she was turning right and came all the way over into my lane, crossing 2 others to get there, and ran right into me). When I first talked to her, she said the sun was in her eyes and that she didn’t see me, but once the police were there, she suddenly remembers signaling to change lanes and blah blah blah. I was pissed. Plus I was holding Kaira, who had finally fallen asleep, and my arm was about to break. So since there were no witnesses and we had ‘conflicting stories’ the police didn’t give any tickets, but just wrote up the report. I got a call from her insurance agency the next day though and she had admitted that she hit me in the left lane, so they’re going to pay for everything, including a rental car. I’m still pissed though, she deserved a ticket. :-P

Kaira turned 6 months old on Friday. She’s growing up too fast! I took her to the doctor for her check-up and found out that she’s growing like a weed. :-P She had actually gone up so fast that they double checked her to make sure it was right. She went from the 5% last time in both height and weight, to the 50% and 25% this time! Woohoo. We were kind of worried after her last appointment, because she was almost off their charts (on the low end) but now she’s completely back on ‘schedule’ and doing great. She had to get her shots again too, poor baby. I hate, hate, hate watching those. She did good though, and no more until 12 months.

Saturday we had Kaira’s pictures taken, which I’ll also post. They were awesome! We had a SUPER hard time picking out which ones to get…and we still ended up with way too many. So…everyone should be expecting a lot of pictures from us. :-P We also looked at a house in the afternoon, which was in the absolute perfect location. It was a foreclosure, so the bank owns it now, and its priced way below its appraised value. Ummm, the problem is that it sort of needs a lot of cosmetic work. Like, a lot, a lot. Chris isn’t sure that he wants to take on that kind of a challenge…I may, but it would be a LOT of work. I liked the space, and the floor plan, and I can see its potential, but I can also see the annoyance of fixing everything. We’ll keep looking, we’re not in a huge rush yet. ;-)

We got back late Monday night from our quick trip to Lincoln. I’m very glad that we were able to go, although I wish it would have been under happier circumstances. Cari’s mom had passed away on Friday. :-( I felt really bad that we weren’t able to stay for the funeral on Tuesday, but with Chris’ job the way it is right now, he could only get one day off of work. So we left early Saturday morning and drove down there, and then came back on Monday. Obviously it was a very sad weekend, but I was happy to see so many of Cari’s family members there…I had no idea she had such a big family! :-) Cari seems to be doing pretty well, considering the circumstances, although I’m sure it will be a long process in the coming days. It was nice to see how much her mom was loved though, and I know she’ll be extremely missed.

The weekend has also made me think a lot about my own situation with my family. Well, my parents mostly…I get along with most other members of my family. :-P Its not that I’ve really changed the way I feel about things that have happened, but it just kind of made me realize that if I want the situation to change, its up to me. They won’t change, as much as I may hope and pray that they will. I know in my heart that they will never change the way they think. So I guess I have to figure out what I want to do. I was just reminded how mortal we all are this weekend, and how quickly we can lose someone we love. I don’t want to end up regretting my stubbornness someday.

Anyway, we’re back now, and we did finally make it up to Cheyenne on the way back from Lincoln. The roads weren’t really bad, it was just FREEZING the whole time. At one point it was down to -8. Sheesh. Stinkin global warming. :-P We got to see Chris’ dad and then Tara and family (and finally exchange our presents!). It was nice to see them, and I was glad they got to see Kaira again since she’s gotten so much bigger!

Cari just left after her weekend visit here. *tear* It was nice to see her again, and to have someone else to help with Kaira. :-P We were pretty lazy most the weekend, but that’s what we wanted to do anyway. There were several memorable moments, including when we were terrorized by some psychotic (literally) lady at Comcast (you had to be there). I feel sorry for the residents of Overland, Kansas…that’s where she told us she was moving. She also told us about her 47 year old sister (or friend???) who died from drugs…so we’re supposed to stay away from drugs. We learned all this while standing in line to get a cable box, it was beyond creepy. Then she told us how she was so glad we were there, otherwise she might be losing it, since they were taking so long at the office. I guess Cari and I just can’t go anywhere without running into crazy people. :-P

Anyway it was a fun visit and I was glad she got to see Kaira while she was still little. And we took lots of pictures. :-)

23 weeks

First ultrasound, 12 weeks and 3 days
23 weeks pregnant
23 weeks pregnant

So I was all excited and just counting the days to my 20 week ultrasound, since that is when we were supposed to find out the sex of the baby. And, of course, I knew that for this particular one they make you drink an insane (32 oz) amount of water and then hold it for over an hour. Why didn’t anyone tell me this would be pure torture? Is this practice-childbirth-torture? Holy crap. Next time I’m pregnant, I’m not falling for that. I’m drinking…a glass of water and calling it good. :-P I started drinking at 7:30, just like I was supposed to, for the appointment at 8:45. When 9:00 rolled by and they still hadn’t even taken me out of the waiting room I thought I was actually going to die. Or break Chris’ fingers. Or throw up. Any of those choices really. Anyway, after finally getting back there, it wasn’t so bad…and the good news is….ITS A GIRL!!! Woohoo!! :-) That’s all that really matters, it was worth the torture just to find that out. I’ll post the new ultrasound pictures soon!

Its been a long time since my last update…oops! What happens is that I come home from work and after working on a computer all day, I just don’t want to do anything with mine at home. Maybe I should just update at work. Maybe they’ll fire me! :-P

Anyway, since the last post there’s been lots of stuff. I had a doctors appointment last month and they did an ultrasound. So we got to see and hear the baby for the first time. *tear* Its just so tiny, its crazy. Everything was good though, and the doctor said I was really healthy, so that’s good to hear. I’ll put up the pictures from the ultrasound. I have another appointment in a couple weeks. I don’t think they’re doing anything cool at that one, but 2 weeks after that (end of March) we have the next ultrasound which is when they’re supposed to tell us if its a boy or a girl. :-D I’ll be so mad if they can’t tell what it is…

Its a girl!
Its a girl!

Chris had his eye surgery last week. It was a strange experience. The day of the surgery, he was perfectly fine, I felt like puking. It was seriously freaking me out. :-P It went fine though, really fast and he was perfectly fine when he came out. The next day he was fine too, and we went back to the doctor for a follow up. He said that the third day was usually the worst. He wasn’t kidding…he was so stinkin sick the next two days, it was crazy. I felt so bad for him. :-( I think it was actually the pain medication that was making him so sick, and there was just nothing to make it better. He basically just slept for 2 days straight, it was so weird. Poor guy. He’s better now though. And he can see. :-)

March 23, 2006

I guess Valentines day was in there somewhere too. Chris is so funny. He ordered a necklace, which he of course ended up telling me about in 5 minutes. :-P I always tell him that he’s so bad at keeping secrets. He always ends up telling me. Well, to my complete surprise, he actually managed to pull one off! Not only that, he even got all of my co-workers to go along with it and not tell me (which, they told me later, was extremely hard). I guess at some point he called Heather (one of the girls I work with) and had her order 2 bouquets to be made for me on Valentines day (very smart, considering I work for a wholesale florist :-P ). Honestly, I can’t belive I didn’t find out either, since making “recipes” (the ingredients for our bouquets) is my job…so at one point or another, the recipe sheet should have passed through my desk. They were pretty smart about it though, and I didn’t see anything until I had already gotten the bouquets. One was a rose bouquet, of course, and the other was an all gerbera daisy bouquet. All the girls think he’s very sweet now, hehe.

Humm, what else is there? Oh! Chris found out today that he’s getting promoted. Woohoo! Not that I like the military any more or anything, but they can feel free to pay him more anytime they want. :-) I’m sure he’ll want to buy lots of baby things now…hehe. Anyway, he’ll be a Sergeant now. Congrats Critopher. :-)

We’re getting closer and closer to when we can move to Denver, yay! We’re planning a trip there in June to look around at the schools and neighborhoods and hopefully have some interviews set up for then too. We’ll be meeting Wendy, the kids, Jared and Javin there too, so it’ll be our little mini-vacation (and hopefully enough to convince the kids that they want to move!).

Well that’s enough for now I suppose. I should go find myself some food. :-)

So I have a new site now…so I guess I should post more. :-P My first job is to get pictures up. Good thing I got off work early. :-P
